group of girls
Some of the spinners in Pell City Cotton Mill, grouped for me by the overseer. Mr. E. A. Thompson, Supt. of the Mill, is also mayor of Pell City. Pell City, Ala., 11/22/1910
second group of girls
These all work in Cleveland Hosiery Mills. The very youngest one (with curls) said, "I ravels and picks up." Small boy in another mill said, "Over in Cleveland, they work em so little, they have to stand em on boxes to reach." Children here and in the hosiery mills generally seemed better dressed and in better condition than in spinning mills. Cleveland, Tenn., 12/08/1910
newsboys in Capitol
Group of newsies selling on capitol steps. Dan, a chronic truant, 9 years old. Joseph, 10 years old, begins selling at 5:30 A.M. John, 11 years old, began selling at 6 years old. Washington, D.C., 04/11/1912
newsboys in Capitol 2
In comparison with governmental affairs, newsies are small matters. This photo was taken in the shadow where the laws are made. This group of young newsboys sell on the Capitol grounds everyday, ages 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, the only boy with a badge was 8 years old. Washington, D.C., 04/10/1912
