Lewis Hine Photo Album of Child Labor

The Lewis Hine series of photographs is the most thorough documentation ever made of the state of child labor in America in the early years of the 20th century. They tell the story of child labor in America the way no text or research study could. They are a resource of enormous value and importance to the history of this issue.

These photos come from two sources: some are from the online collections of the National Archives, and others are from the Lewis Hine photograph collection of the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). The UMBC Library Archives owns a complete set of over 5,000 Hine photographs and is in the process of making reference copies of the images available on their website at:
